10 Useful WordPress Plugins

As most people know there are a wealth of different WordPress plugins.  Quite often if you imagine there should be one, there is.

Here is a list of 10 plugins that we find useful.  It’s not exclusive and there are many more useful plugins out there!

1. Exclude Pages from Navigation

Want some pages on your site but don’t want them in any menus?  This plugin removes them.  Ideal for “Term & Conditions” links that you might want in a footer but not in the main menu.

2. Exec-PHP

If you want you posts to do more you might want to execute some php in them.  This plugin lets you do just that.  A word of caution however, using this plugin and the visual editor is fraught with danger.  Hence plugin 3…

3. Easy Disable Visual Editor

If you are using php in your posts or pages, or if you just don’t like the visual editor this plugin is for you.  Removes it from view.

4. Page Columnist

Give more flexibility on how the page is layout out with Page Columnist.  Allows for headers, footers and loads of columns in posts with each post being individual.  Useful for giving a page a ‘magazine’ appearance.

5. Quotes Collection

A plugin I frequently use to allow testimonials in sidebars or as a page.  The sidebar version is all AJAXed up to provide a transition effect and provides random quotes / testimonials.

6. Google Analyticator

One of many plugins to help with the integration of Google Analytics into a website.  Be sure to check ‘ignore administrator’ to get a truer record of your visitor numbers.

7. Google XML Sitemaps

The second Google inspired plugin.  This one makes sure your sitemap is always up to date and automatically informs the search engines of new posts as you add them.

8. SexyBookmarks

The most sexy way to add social media integration into a blog.  See just below this article for an example of SexyBookmarks in operation.

9. Yet Another Related Posts Plugin

Uses it magic algorithm to find related posts on your site to give your visitors more to read.  Helps lower the bounce rate.

10. Redirection

Manage all your 301 redirects and monitor 404 errors.  If you find yourself renaming and moving pages this is the plugin for you.  Keeps your site unbroken.

These are just some of our top plugins – there are many more and I’m sure you all have your own too.  Feel free to share them below!
